Senior Project Engineer

The Senior Project Engineer is a member of the Womack Systems Team reporting directly to the Director of Systems. The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for the development of initial system/component requirements and specifications; performing calculations (e. g. pressure drop, flow analyses, heat loads, stress analysis); developing and improving fluid system designs; developing/reviewing system schematics and drawings; material and equipment selections; resolving emergent design and construction issues; managing system interfaces; developing system operating instructions, test forms and maintenance procedures.  The Project Engineer is responsible for managing projects from the initial order entry through and including shipment of the product to the Customer and coordinates resources across multiple departments to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget. This position reports to the Director of Systems and is part of the Systems engineering team. After the design phase of the project the position will work with Manufacturing Associates/Technicians in the proper application of equipment and technologies in a flexible and highly Customer focused environment. He or she will be responsible and accountable for the recognition and training of Safety, Quality, On-Time Delivery, and Productivity principles. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Lead the scope definition, planning and execution of projects while overseeing adherence to the project budget.
  • Adhere to project timelines coordinated with the production schedule.
  • Develop and track project deliverables, such as BOM releases, schematics, and drawings both for external and internal customers as required. Work with the team leaders to determine needs of the Associates/Technicians
  • Ensures proper condition of the test and inspection area of the facility.
  • Ensures proper procedures of testing and inspecting our power units are taught and adhered to meet the high-quality standards of our customers.
  • Participates in production meetings and gate reviews.
  • Constantly monitor and report on progress of the Systems planning and management.
  • Implement and manage project changes and interventions to achieve project results
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope and within budget
  • Conduct project evaluations and assess project results
  • Schedule gate reviews and factory acceptance tests
  • Review open order requirements to determine expedite needs
  • Provides technical support to the WMSCO sales team
  • Provides organization with professional AutoCAD schematics and/or Solidworks drawings
  • Other duties may be required

 

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Expertise and technical competence in fluid power components, workmanship and proper assembly practices
  • Previous experience with the design, development, and/or operation of fluid systems, experience with fluid system components, and technical problem solving
  • Proven experience in initiating and driving project performance (On time delivery and budget adherence).
  • Professional communication skills to ensure effective meetings and workshops with our Associates/Technicians as well as Design Personnel.
  • Must have proven problem-solving skills and experience – Corrective and Preventive Actions.
  • High level of commitment towards Customer Satisfaction and sensitivity to shipping equipment on-time.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD and Solid Work

 

Desired Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in an ISO9001 environment preferred.
  • Experience and/or exposure to Project Management skills and practices
  • Experience and/or exposure to Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering principles and methods preferred.
  • PE desired but not required

Quality Responsibility and Authority

  • Responsibility to follow Womack Systems’ Quality Policy, Quality Manual, Quality System Procedures, Standards, and Work Instructions.
  • Has authority to stop a process known to create a non-conformance or to hold a document known to be non-conforming.
  • Responsibility to notify their supervisor immediately of any action to stop/hold a process or document.
  • Responsibility to document and propose solutions to known non-conformances.
  • Responsibility to respond to Customer requests immediately and efficiently ensuring the Customer feels a high level of confidence when dealing with Womack Systems’ employees, products, and services.

Experience

7+ years of hands-on experience in the production of hydraulic/pneumatic power units and/or applications.

 

Education

  • Bachelor or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • CFPHS Certification is a plus

 

Physical Demands: The work is frequently sedentary; typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some movement from area to area, transporting of items such as a laptop computer, small products or parts, product books or catalogs. Position requires long periods of sitting while driving or riding as a passenger in an automobile. Must be able to move through customer sites, including warehouses, shipyards, oil field rigs, manufacturing facilities, fabrication and production facilities, and other similar workplaces.  Must be able to effectively communicate using company-issued devices such as laptop, cell phone, etc.

 

Work Environment: While performing the primary duties of the job, the employee is regularly exposed to various outdoor and indoor environments, including temperature variances, humidity, dust, noise, etc. Overnight travel may be required.  Attending regular meetings, training and making sales calls via automobile or airplane is required. Work outside normal business hours is required.
